Dr K. Louise Bennett

Principal Acupuncturist

Louise Bennett has been in clinical practice for over 35 years, beginning as a registered nurse and midwife, and now working as a registered acupuncturist at Balance Acupuncture Brisbane, in Carina.

That healthcare background is not incidental. It shapes how every presentation is assessed, how treatment is structured, and how progress is tracked over time.

Louise’s qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing)

  • Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture)

  • Toyohari Acupuncture: East Asian Needle Therapy

  • Kiiko Matsumoto style acupuncture: Basic & Advanced Certifications

  • Kiiko Certification

  • Do Nakano Level 1 & Level 2

Clinical Background

Louise’s clinical career began in nursing and extended into midwifery, where she worked extensively in women’s health across hospital and community settings. This foundation — understanding how the body functions systemically, how conditions develop over time, and how patients experience care — continues to inform how acupuncture is approached in clinic today.

After decades in conventional healthcare, Louise trained formally in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, adding a framework that approaches the body’s patterns and regulatory systems from a different clinical angle. The combination of these two backgrounds is what makes the approach here different from standard acupuncture practice.

Louise is registered with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and is a member of AACMA (Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association). Treatment at Balance Acupuncture is recognised by Medibank and Bupa, and WorkCover patients are welcome.

How Treatment Is Approached

Treatment is not based on a fixed method or a standard protocol applied to everyone with the same presenting complaint.

Each session is guided by how your symptoms are presenting, how they’ve developed over time, and how your body responds to treatment as it progresses. Adjustments are made as patterns become clearer, which is often where the most useful clinical information comes from.

In practice, the focus is frequently on identifying what is maintaining the issue, not just what caused it to begin with. Many patients come in after trying other approaches that have helped partially or temporarily. Treatment here is structured around understanding why that is.

Areas Commonly Treated

In clinic, Louise regularly works with:

These areas often overlap, and treatment is adjusted to reflect the full picture rather than addressing each concern in isolation.

Working Alongside Other Practitioners

Many patients are already under the care of a GP, physiotherapist, obstetrician, fertility specialist, or psychologist when they first come in.

Where appropriate, acupuncture is used to work alongside existing care rather than replace it. For patients going through IVF, managing a chronic condition, or navigating complex ongoing symptoms, a coordinated approach is often more effective than any single modality in isolation.

If you’re already working with other practitioners and want to discuss how acupuncture might fit into your current care, that’s worth covering at the first appointment.

What Patients Say

“Louise has been treating me for years. My sleep is better, the stiffness has reduced, and I always leave feeling genuinely restored.”
